Teams across the Red Deer Lacrosse Association saw success over the weekend in Calgary at the Timberfest Memorial Tournament.
The Red Deer Chiefs U11-2, U13-B1, U15-B2, and U17-B all won the gold medal and the U9-1 won the bronze medal.
Both the U9-1 and U9-2 teams from Red Deer faced off in the bronze medal game and it went to overtime.
President of the Red Deer Lacrosse Association Jessica Albrecht said in an email the victories are a testament to the hard work and dedication the players and staff put in to prepare.
“I am thrilled to see the tremendous success of our teams over the weekend, as they displayed incredible teamwork, skill, passion, and dedication,” she said.
“Our teams showed the true spirit of lacrosse and made us all proud. I would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our gracious hosts in Calgary, who provided our teams with warm hospitality and an unforgettable experience.”
On May Long weekend the Red Deer Lacrosse Association will host teams from across Alberta for the annual Tradition Lives Tournament.
“We are proud to host this long-standing event, which not only celebrates the tradition of lacrosse but also showcases the Red Deer community and the sportsmanship of our young players. We invite everyone to join us and witness the thrill of lacrosse at its finest.”
Junior B success
Meanwhile, the Red Deer Rampage and Renegades continued their great starts to the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League seasons.
The Tier I Rampage defeated the Regina Queen City Kings on Friday at home 8-7 followed by another 11-7 victory on Sunday versus the Jr. Outlaws. The pair of wins improves the Rampage’s record to 3-1 on the season. This weekend they’ll play the Lethbridge Barracudas on the road and on Sunday against the Edmonton Warriors at home.
However, the Tier II Renegades lost their first game of the season to the Westlock Rock by a small 11-10 margin. They’re now 1-1 this season with a matchup against the Sherwood Park Titans on Saturday.
